Product Description A GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK “Meet Tomi Adeyemi―the new J.K. Rowling. (Yep, she’s that good).” ―Entertainment Weekly After battling the impossible, Zélie and Amari have finally succeeded in bringing magic back to the land of Orïsha. But the ritual was more powerful than they could’ve imagined, reigniting the powers of not only the maji, but of nobles with magic ancestry, too. Now, Zélie struggles to unite the maji in an Orïsha where the enemy is just as powerful as they are. But when the monarchy and military unite to keep control of Orïsha, Zélie must fight to secure Amari's right to the throne and protect the new maji from the monarchy's wrath. With civil war looming on the horizon, Zélie finds herself at a breaking point: she must discover a way to bring the kingdom together or watch as Orïsha tears itself apart. Children of Virtue and Vengeance is the stunning sequel to Tomi Adeyemi's New York Times-bestselling debut Children of Blood and Bone, the first book in the Legacy of Orïsha trilogy. Praise for Children of Blood and Bone: “Poses thought-provoking questions about race, class and authority that hold up a warning mirror to our sharply divided society.” –The New York Times“The next big thing in literature and film.” ―Ebony “A fast-paced, excellently crafted hero's journey…populated with compelling and nuanced black characters.” –NPR “A debut novel that is nearly impossible to put down.”–USA Today Amazon.com Review Tomi Adeyemi scores another hit with her second book, Children of Virtue and Vengeance. Adeyemi elegantly brings readers back into the world she created in her blockbuster debut, Children of Blood and Bone, picking up the thread after Zélie’s powerful ritual brought magic back to the realm. The war between the monarchy and the maji rages on. Zélie is still reeling from heartbreak and betrayal, and now the expectation of her people—to whom she is the Soldier of Death—weighs heavy on her shoulders. Amari prepares to take the throne, believing she can be a queen who will unite the country, but those in power have other ideas. There is more magic than ever in this novel, Zélie’s ritual having unexpectedly created tîtáns and cênters, non-maji who wield powerful magic. A sense of duty and righteousness begins to corrupt even those with the best of intentions. Bids for peace are met with acts of revenge, and ruthlessness rules the day. Death and destruction burn through these pages as love and loyalty are tested. Once again, Adeyemi wraps things up with both a satisfying conclusion to this piece of the puzzle and a thrilling glimpse of what’s to come. -- Seira Wilson, Amazon Book Review Review NPR's Best Books of 2019 "Relentless even beyond its finish, this is a sure-fire hit. This book had me hanging on at the edge of my seat ready to fight battles and kick in some doors! These books are page turners at the very least. The first page you will be drawn into a world that is not your own. The characters become your friends, your family even. You can feel the pain and laugh with the characters. When you purchase this book also head on over to the Kleenex and get a box or two you will need them. I am in awe at the ability of the author to bring light on a subject but not make it so personal its historical. Magical thriller is the way I described it to my mother who is now in the process of ordering her own set by this author. I hope to see a third book coming out very soon. If its anything like the book I just read I will be pre-ording a new book as soon as it is available for pre-order.
